Introduction
Fairview Red Wing Hospital dietitians are vital members of the health care team and provide nutrition therapy as appropriate to patient needs. They respond to requests made by physicians, nurses, patients and other health care team members. The dietitians also participate in patient care rounds to help identify patients who are in need of nutrition intervention. They identify nutrition risk based on diagnosis, nutrition complications, social/diet history, laboratory tests and comparative measurements. Based on their assessment, a personalized treatment plan will be developed. Dietitians work to help patients understand the relationship between nutrition and their illness.
At Fairview Red Wing Hospital patients can order what they want to eat, when they want to eat it through At Your Request, a room service dining program. Each patient is given a menu from which to order their food. If patients are on a special diet they will be guided through the ordering process by a room service attendent who is familiar with their restrictions.
